Who is this friend? Oh, only one of the most poisonous spiders in Australia--no big deal. The Redback spider is actually quite common, especially in the warmer months and is second in notoriety only to the Funnel Web spider (which is even ickier looking).
Turns out that, while its bite could very well kill you, it is HIGHLY uncommon these days thanks to modern medicine and anti-venom.
I would also like to point out that the Black Widow and Brown Recluse, both found in Georgia, are also on the "deadliest spiders" list, so I guess I can't complain too much.
Needless to say we promptly took the backside of a dust pan to the little monster while Ashley screamed and "protected" Chloe.
Just another day in paradise...

Is that a photo you took... did you get that close to the spider? ick!
Oh no I definitely did NOT take that photo...that was the last thing on my mind at the time haha!
My 'favorite' spider encounters in Australia were with the Huntsman -- HUGE, and I am not just exaggerating. One day I hopped into my car and drove off. The sun was blinding me, so I pushed down my visor -- and guess who was waiting to say hello. I stopped REALLY fast and I'm sure anyone observing my efforts to get rid of my passenger was laughing his head off!
